My current favorite unusual animal is the hognosed snake. I recently discovered this snake plays dead to avoid predators and it's the cutest thing because they flip themselves upside down and open their mouth and play dead. If you try to flip them back onto their belly they instantly flip back over and play dead again.

Also, with some searching I discovered a wide variety of these snakes and their colors and patterns are beautiful.

My favorite is also the octopus. They're amazingly intelligent creatures who I am 100% sure descended from aliens (fun fact: I love them so much I have a big one tattooed on my side!)

Favorite unusual animal is the Burmese python, but mostly 'cause I'm a fan of Heinlein and I'm soft for the character Honey Bun in STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, a babysitting python who also doubles as clothing for the tattooed lady, Patricia Paiwonski. She literally wears her snake around the house instead of clothes. XD
