The Circus: Haven Event #1 - June 20th to July 3rd.

We hope you've all settled into Haven well enough. The people who live here still don't trust you. The solar paneling that powers the town is still spotty and there's still no school for the teenagers, but everyone seems to have settled into some manner of a routine, right?

By now, some of you reading this will probably be going "oh, crap. what's happening now?"

Guys...friends. Loved ones of Fluxscape.

The Circus is coming to town. This traveling show won't be announcing it's coming, but NPCs will be talking about a caravan coming from the West for the next couple weeks, with reports of dancers and exotic animals and music. It's going to create quite the buzz in town. People will be excited.

On June 20th, the Sunspot Circus will arrive! Don't worry, they won't need help setting up. They'll have everything up and running by mid-morning, and staff will be walking through town, friendly as you please, making stops to tell people all about Sunspot Circus. They'll tell of the upcoming performances, and all of the side-show acts people can see. The tickets are reasonably priced, and bringing a date is encouraged. Who knows? Maybe the fortune teller will have something lovely to tell couples. And the food is amazing. The smells of it drifting through the entire town for the duration of their visit.

People with old fashioned cameras will be walking around, selling photos for cheap, so it's absolutely a wise idea to get a photo of yourself and your friends at the circus, if you don't mind holding still for two minutes. But don't worry, the day the circus leaves, you'll get your photo delivered by courier.

On June 23rd, they'll pack up and leave and wasn't that the most amazing thing you've ever seen?

We hope you enjoyed their visit, because it was a huge distraction.

You see, while you were at the circus enjoying a good time, and while you were watching the performers roam the streets of Haven, giving a small demonstration of what they'll be doing at the circus, they've been setting up for something bad.

And they'll have done this so discreetly, that even the paranoid residents of Haven haven't noticed anything amiss.

On June 24th is when things start going downhill. Someone somewhere is very aware that you don't belong in this universe, and they're very aware that your presence will make life difficult for them. And they've found a way to use that against you.

Up until now, you haven't experienced the horrors that is your body aware on a cellular and molecular level that they're in the wrong place. But now, you'll be going through what a few people in town know as Glitching.

And in case you're wondering what that is, we have a handy dandy video for you. At the 16 second mark is what your body will go through. At random. Several times. As often or as infrequently as you choose. It is exceptionally painful and sometimes debilitating. Every single possible version of yourself is trying to exist one spot for anywhere from five seconds to ten seconds at a time, and it is exhausting.

Not only that, but it's causing rapid cellular degeneration. And for those that have powers, please note something very, very important:

Your powers are gone for the duration of this event, from the 24h to the end.

Basically, this is dangerous. You'll recover at the end, we promise. But until then, it's probably best to try to find why this is happening and to be very careful going through your day to day life.

There have been several devices planted around town. This won't really be discovered until a week into glitching because these devices have cloaking capabilities, but some of the brilliant NPC minds at Wechester have discovered what's causing it and for those that want to help, they've developed an app for your FluxPhones that will help you track these devices.

There are seven of them.

1: In the market place, close to the food stalls. Tucked under the underside of a stool.
2 and 3: In the broken down mall. One of them in an old shoe store, the other in a broken down book store.
4 and 5: In the school. One in the art room (taken by Miles Morales), another in the old gym. (Claimed by Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz).
6: The roof of the hospital.
7: The Caldera, right inside an old drain.

We need volunteers to find a device, so if you're interested, please let us know which one you'll want to find.

Around this time, the cloaking devices will be faulty, so they'll be easier to spot. They'll flicker in and out of visibility, but they'll be there. No bigger than a matchbook. Easily broken.

By July 3rd, all devices will be destroyed and people will start to recover. But it's probably a good idea to at least start trying to figure out who sent the Circus and the devices. We'll have clues for that at the end of this event.

Now, a final bit of insanity. While this wasn't part of the glitching shown above, whoever sent these devices either programmed this in on purpose, or wasn't even aware this was a side effect of it, but while an infinite number of you are trying to live in one spot, people nearby will see memories tied to the you that's here. They'll experience them as high def or as minimally as they want, but people within touching distance will suddenly live a brief part of your life. Whether they're experiencing it as if it was their own memory, or standing on the sidelines watching this whole thing, that's up to the players. But this should make for some interesting moments during all of this, right?

Gwen is going to visit the circus every night because she is sixteen years old and this is something to do. She's going to love having something exciting to do. She's going to get sick on popcorn and circus food and probably buy stupid shit she doesn't need, but it has been 84 years since she's had some kind of amazing entertainment that isn't in Haven.

And then she's going to hate everything when the glitching kicks in. She's done this before, people. It sucks.

That time she saw her dad die and decided 'fuck this shit' and went after the people responsible.

Yeah, Tess doesn't trust circuses. That's nothing canon, but like hell is she not wary of carny folks. Also, she would like to be one of those minds at Wechester who develops the app. She's here to work, not just make fluffy speeches.

If there's a midway, Helix will play All the Games and eat enough junk food to make herself sick. Depending on the human acts, she might be interested in some of those, too.

She will be glitching, but the only memory anyone (and everyone) will get from her is the sensation of being tied to a chair and locked in a pitch dark room.

Miles Morales

Miles is going to be at the circus a lot because he is bored and there’s nothing else to really do anymore.

And then he will be glitching and miserable because he’d seen this before but this’ll be the first time experiencing it and he wasn’t ready.

The glitching may remind him of his own experiences with tech and the multiverse and he could get suspicious very quickly and so look for the cause.

- Being temporarily fused with a symbiote suit, later known as Venom.
- Filming his recent biopic and fighting off members of The Sinister/Savage Six.
- Being tormented by an horrifying demonic entity.

Since powers will be failing, I was wondering if this is cool for Kusuriuri here before I start properly plotting:

His demonic visage is sealed magically in his sword. If powers are all failing and the glitches are multiple selves trying to converge, is it okay if he loses the ability to control what form he takes? Neither form will have any access to their magic abilities or enhanced strength, he'll just glitch back and forth into his obviously More Demonic body.

This weirdo will absolutely hit the circus! It'll be amusing for him, as a wanderer who enjoys change.

Once the glitching starts, he's going to lose control of his usually-sealed demonic form and will be shifting back and forth. His demonic state is a little more temperamental and feral, but it is still the Same Person underneath.

As for memory sharing, feel free to share memories about dealing with intense possession, housebound spirits, and hauntings. If you want specific hauntings or creatures to deal with that will resound with your character specifically, feel free to ask me for extra details!

I would love for some CR with people around him while he glitches for sure, though. He prefers to be a mystery and won't be comfortable with people getting a look inside his head.

Mera is definitely going to be going to the circus. She's never seen one! On land at least. I bet Atlantis circuses are different. If they have circuses. IDK!

For the glitching, one of the things I want to do with it is have her glitching back and forth between her ZSJL appearance (which is also her appearance here because I just prefer it and I do what I want) and her Aquaman appearance. So she's going to be flipping back and forth between long auburn hair and Ariel hair.

Jean will go to the Circus as often as she can because it's something wholesome to do. She's going to be pretty miserable about the glitching and the loss of powers though. As for memories, most of her memories are pretty awful but some that can be viewed include:

-That one time she turned into a giant flamebird and disintegrated a military plane that was flying over the school talking about how they could just "vaporize the baby mutant filth." They were the ones that got vaporized instead...oopps.
-That one time she was a naked firey being flying through space only to have the Silver Surfer tell her she needed to go back to Earth because planets were waging war in her honor and destroying themselves because of the return of the Phoenix god.

-That one time a creepy cult called the Church of Shi'ar Enlightenment kidnapped her and put her in the center of a weird giant pentagram.

Declan Lynch

So he has no powers to lose, but he is still not going to be overly thrilled about the glitching. Also possible he might offer to take someone on a questionable date to the circus, if anyone's into that.

I haven't gotten far enough to know what his feels are relating to the painting, but if he actually wants it because of spoilery reasons, Gansey might try to paint a version of it for him.

(BTW, Gansey finds fighting Mr. Grey Interesting, especially the bit with the motorcycle helmet. Dec needs to be interesting like that again and get a motorcycle.)

Once the powers disappear, he's going to be feeling pretty damn lost. His entire sense of self is tied to Being Alan Wake's Dark Side, so he's basically going to be having a brief crisis of identity.

Flashy parties with too much booze and too many drugs.
And.......nothingness. A feeling of one's existence being absolutely nothing in a swirling, drifting void of darkness, until a piercing light grabs and burns, pulling the consciousness suddenly out and inserting someone else's whole identity in a horrible rush.

Donna will absolutely go to the Circus! Angie will be all over the place and want to play all the games, because Donna will be too shy to do so on her own.

When powers disappear, Donna is going to be having a Very Hard Time. She'll have to go back to manual ventriloquism, but just not having Angie be "alive" is going to terrify her.


She's got some very traumatic memories on offer -

-Being at a funeral for her entire family, surrounded by whispers wondering why she brought a doll and won't talk to anyone.

-Having tea with a beautiful, saintly looking woman who is offering to make something more of her.

-Blistering pain as she resurrects after experiments were concluded, the scar over the right side of her face blistering into something "monstrous."

-Making porcelain dolls and burying chunks of something slimy, black, and moving within them, watching them spring to life.

-Pursuing a delirious (because of her hallucinogens) man around her house until he whips around, face shadowed, and stabs her in the face with scissors...then the feeling of her body petrifying and crumbling away.

So he's definitely going to the circus. It's a circus! What's not to like or something? And then he's going to glitch a bunch and be miserable and cranky and if he hears there's a way to fix things and his peeps express concern and interest then he'll probably go looking for a device?? Whether or not he finds one is up in the air but he'll at least tag along for a search.

As far as memories go, I offer:
- various efforts of making Daniel's life miserable, from meeting him on the beach to attacking him in a skeleton costume after getting soaked in a bathroom stall to shoving him down a hill
- various episodes of his stepfather being a general dick, from telling a tiny version of him how absolutely worthless and weak he is to cutting and cruel lectures for coming home late or bad grades and crappy college prospects and everything in between
- Kreese. Getting trained, praised as the golden boy, learning self-confidence and coming out of his shell. Being taught to be ruthless and cruel through endurance and survival instinct. His fall from grace because he didn't do as he was told, and Kreese's response by verbally cutting him to ribbons when he tried to stand up for himself and trying to strangle him until Mr Miyagi intervened.
- starting Cobra Kai up again. Helping kids gain confidence, and Kreese's return. Getting pushed out. Helping Miguel get back on his feet. Confronting Kreese about the Cobra Kais' home invasion and getting his ass kicked. Robbie siding with Kreese.

Megumi comes in a little too late to be at the circus. And because he's coming in while glitching is in full effect, he'll just assume it's a part of being here. He kinda thinks he's dead, so it's just par for the course.
