Rules and FAQ!
HELLO AND WELCOME TO FLUXSCAPE'S OOC COMM! We're excited to have you here. We've got a few basic rules, nothing too exciting. We're just hoping to create a game that's not only fun but comfortable for everyone. While we're aware conflicts do arise, we hope that these rules will make them few and far between.
Rules:
1. Don't be a jerk.
Simply put, please respect other RPers wishes. If they're not looking to plot with you, let it be. If they're not looking for CR with you, that's cool, too! Pushing for something someone else might not be interested in isn't at all respectful, so please keep this in mind.
On the flip side, if you're not interested in CR with someone, please don't be rude about telling them. Be polite, but firm, and if issues arise please contact the mods. This also goes for plotting. If you'd like your character to do whatever to another character, and the player isn't for it, please step back and accept that. Don't push. We will take action if anyone is being bullied or harassed.
2. 4th Walling:
Look. We get it. Some characters might exist in your characters universe as comic book characters or people from movies or books. But unless the player is down with your character going "HEY YOU'RE FROM SUCH AND SUCH A THING!" Don't do it. Don't even hint that they might be fictional without plotting it with the other player. Even if it's a thing your character does, make sure all parties are okay with it. If you need to, slap up a permissions post and point people in it's direction. If they don't fill it out, consider it a 'no go at this station'.
3. Info-Modding/Godmodding:
Godmodding: controlling the actions of another players character without the players permission.
Don't do it. If it's not your character, leave the choices to the player as to how they'll react. And if it's something big, plot out the details so no ones toes get stepped on.
Infomodding: Using OOC knowledge as IC knowledge without your character having been part of the conversation/event in question. Again, as we've stated so many times, make sure you have the okay to do this. A lot of RP issues come from things not being okayed by others, and we're really trying to avoid that.
4. Sensitive/Triggering Topics:
Keep it under a cut and warn for it, that's all we're asking. Your characters past has Problematic Stuff in it? That's fine and dandy, but don't shove it at people without making sure players are okay with it and please make sure to warn for it.
We are 100% aware that adult situations will happen. Please either take it to journals or fade to black. Thank you.
5. Mun/Playercest
Playercest when one player plays two or more characters that have close CR with each other. Or one player uses another of their characters to force CR with another character.
Please don't tag yourself. It's a little awkward not in a PSL setting and sort of ruins the whole point of RP, don't you think? However, we understand and respect that your characters may cross paths and might see each other on occasion. It is okay to hand wave that your own characters have met in passing but they cannot be BFFs FIVE-EVER!!!

The Fantabulous FAQs!!!
OOC Info (What to know before you Play!)
- How old do I have to be to play?
18 and older please. We're not saying some of the topics and plots in here will get a little mature, but we're not saying it won't.
What kind of characters don't you allow?
While we really don't mind most types of characters, we have to draw a line somewhere. That line is drawn at fandom OCs who are related to characters in the fandom. You can't bring in Severus Snapes sister/cousin/aunt/uncle/whatever blood relative that wasn't mentioned in the books. But you can bring in a Hogwarts student or a Harry Potter OC that has no ties to the main characters.
Other characters we'll have to say no to are sentient objects that won't really bring much to the game or people can only interact with if they're around it. (Think Danny Street from Doom Patrol).
Is a CRAU Character okay?
ALWAYS! Always and forever. You can bring your character in from any game, with all manner of CRAU. But if your character is from a game where the topics might make people uncomfortable, maybe put up a permissions post so that you know who is and who isn't down with hearing about it.
Note: If you app a CRAU Character who had previous CR with a character played by someone else that was not previously in the same game, please check with the mun of that character to ensure they are okay with your character remembering their's.
Do you allow multiples of characters?
This is a touchy one, so we're going to do our best to explain. In cases like The Doctor from Doctor Who, there can be as many iterations as have shown up in the series.
In instances like characters that have presence in various types of media, if there's already one of those in game, run it past them first. For example, Someone has Tony Stark from the comics, and you want to bring in Tony Stark from Iron Man Adventures or from the MCU. Run it past the Stark that was here first. If they're good with it, you're good to go.
Just let us know on the app so we can confirm with the other player.
Can I bring a Rule!63 Character?
Only if a rule!63 version of the character exists within the canon. (think Minako from Persona 3 or Commander Shepard from Mass Effect)
Do you allow Challenge Apps?
Fluxscape operates on a 'First Come First Serve' style basis when it comes to reserves so we do not take challenge apps. The reason being is that we feel that challenge apps put added stress on both players and RP is meant to be fun and stress free.
How many Character's can I play?
Currently, we are allowing up to three character's per player. If you would like to app a fourth and have repeatedly met AC, you may ask for Mod Permission for a fourth and maybe (in the future) even a fifth.
Can I app two characters from the Same Canon
The short answer is no. However, if your characters are from a canon where neither of them have met then we will go ahead and allow it.
My character is a minor and can’t fend for themselves!
In that case you can either have them move in with a caring and loving NPC fam, or assigned to a random character in game that have signed in to take in children. (this can either be random or planned prior.)
Do they have to go to school?
They don’t have to, but they should. Education is important, you know! If they don't physically want to attend the school, they can do remote school from the comfort of their home either on their smartphone or the school will provide a laptop. There's WiFi everywhere, no matter the setting. And if they don't want to go to school at all, that's awesome, too. Unless an adult is making them, of course.
How old does my character have to be?
Fluxscape accepts characters of all ages but let’s be sensible about how playable the character is.
My character is a vampire. How---
We're going to stop you there because we already know what you're going to ask. The sun won't hurt your vampire at all. Not even a little bit.
As for food, there'll be a very passable blood substitute found in your local grocer. There are also a couple butcher shops who won't even blink if you order a couple containers of animal blood.
And, should your vampire be the type that sparkles in the sun? You won't here. The sun reacts differently on your skin and you'll just look like your average, every day, sort of pale ( GONDOR CALLS FOR AID!!) person. And no, we aren't actually saying you'll glow like that.
My character is a were-whatever who reacts to the phases of the moon.
The full moon runs every month from the 15th to the 18th, should this information be needed. Whether or not you want to play that out, that's entirely up to you. You can say you had better control and didn't change, or you can say you did change but all you really wanted to do was lie around like the big were-whatever you are, and relax. Or you can say your character tried to cause trouble (please plot this out though.) This one, you can have fun with.
Can my character get pregnant?
Nope. Please do not. While this is SOL and that's usually part of it, we ask that you refrain at this time. Thank you.
Can my character die?
Yes, yes they can. And yes, they will come back after a week. They will appear at home as if nothing happened and something will be missing. A memory. The ability to speak. The ability to see. It's players choice. We'll RNG for how long that'll last. It can be anywhere from an hour up to a couple weeks.
Are Powers Nerfed?
Good lord, no. For the most part, no. If your character has reality warping abilities and they want to use them in a way that will affect the whole setting, run it past the mods so we can make an event of it.
My Character’s gonna Be Gay and Do Crimes~
Oh okay, cool. Before you turn to your life of crime though there are a few things you should know. The Sentient Pocket Dimension knows what you did and it will tell on you. Not blatantly of course, because that wouldn’t be any fun for anyone. So-it’ll drop hints to the officers on your case. Hopefully they’re smart enough to figure it out. If not, well then congrats on your blossoming criminal enterprises. Also, please note that if they don’t want to be gay but do want to do crimes the same rules apply.
Basically what we're saying is, plot this out with people so the crime can be solved. The Sentient Pocket Dimension is watching.
Oops! I killed an NPC!
You monster! How could you? They just want what’s best for the town. Killing NPCs, while mean and cruel is allowed if you can live with your conscience but if your character wants to go on a full out killing spree then please run it by the mods so the appropriate reactions and such can be plotted out. Remember! The Pocket Dimension is watching!
You mentioned the pocket dimension has sentience. My character is psychic. Can they communicate with the dimension?
They can try. The most they'll get back is that the dimension is very young. Very childlike, compassionate and curious about everything going on. But no actual dialogue will happen. Occasionally, laughter. Very gentle, teasing laughter.
What if I want to a canon update?
Canon updates are allowed! They will go to bed and have a dream that feels suspiciously real. When they wake up they'll find themselves slumped up against the Info Hub. Jerry is happy to see you and offers them a coupon to a business of the player's choice before he asks: "How was your trip home?"
Or, if there there was some kind of epic battle and your character was injured they'll just wake up in the hospital. The doctors and nurses might even mention they gave them a scare!
So what exactly is a Static location?
We’re so glad you asked! Simply put, it’s a location that is always the same no matter what the current landscape. Things like the grocery stores, police station, hospital and information hub are all static locations. The exterior may change but the function and location are always the same. The ground might be literal Lava but you can still get your groceries!
Okay so, what’s a Flux Location?
Basically the opposite of a Static location. These are things that are changeable or that are ‘in flux.’ Things like book shops, clothing shops, diners-that sort of thing. They’re still around in some capacity but you might have to go look for it again and they might just have completely changed their inventory. Your local coffee shop with the best cookies in town is now all Vegan. That doesn’t mean the cookies aren’t any good though!
Can I suggest Static or Flux Locations?
You sure can! On the locations page. There'll be a form to fill out for it and we'll get back to you on it. That being said, please bear in mind that for Flux Locations we will be closing location suggestions two weeks before a setting change so that people have time to enjoy it.
Activity Check, Hiatus, Drops and Apps-what you need to know!
- What is needed to pass AC?
Our Activity check is very simple and rewarding! We require that you have:
-Two threads with two different characters with five or more of your character's comments.
-You can also use one post on either the log or network comm as one thread so long as there is a clear effort to tag your tag ins.
What counts towards AC?
-Any thread (Action, Text, Audio) Posted to either the Network or Log Comm
-Any Threads on your IC Inbox that are SFW
-Any Thread (five of your comments) from the Current Month of AC. Back tags are allowed up to a month prior. (so if it is currently October you may submit back tags from a thread started in September but not August.)
Can I combine threads if I don't quite have five of my comments in one of them?
As long as it adds up to ten comments from you, go for it.
[information on rewards is temporarily redacted until we figure out a good way to handle things. ]
I need to go on Hiatus/I need to drop.
Please post to the Hiatus/Drops Page to let us know. If your Hiatus goes for two weeks or longer you are exempt from AC for the month. Just Check In with your characters to remind us you were on hiatus.
What happens to my Character when I'm on hiatus?
That is really up to you! There are some fun options available such as your typical auto-pilot, they somehow turn into a gnome or garden ornament on their property, or maybe they won a special trip in the mail or even are being sent away on a business trip!
And when I drop?
The character or characters you've dropped will be collected by someone sent by Jerry. They'll be given enough time to say their goodbyes, provided you want to go that route, or they'll simply head to Jerry. Either way, they'll hand their house key and FluxPhone over to Jerry and then reappear in their own universe.
I don't have AC and forgot to hiatus
Hey, life happens, we get you. You can take a save on your character and try again next month. However, you will need to bring your comment total for one character up to fifteen. Just one. Not more than that. The other characters will still just need ten.
How many saves do I get?
One at a time. If you use one on the current month you will not be able to take a save the following month. Although, if something has come up please contact the Mods. We are really a very understanding bunch and are happy to work with you! We just need you to communicate!
When is the monthly AC?
AC starts on the first of the month and runs through the fifth. The Sixth and Seventh day of the month is considered 'crunch time' in which we will reach out to people who have not submitted their AC. The Seventh Day will see AC results posted.
I need to drop ):
We are very sorry to see you go. Please post to the drop post and your Character will be collected by an NPC and sent back home.
When are Apps open?
At the moment, Reserves Will stay open and Apps will only close one week before a Setting Change and reopen after. Once the game reaches a certain number of characters we will change to a monthly app cycle. At that time we will update this portion of the FAQ.
Your Character's new life in Fluxscape.
- Where will my character live?
Upon arriving your character will have the clothes on their backs and a key in their pocket wrapped in a piece of paper that will have an address written on it. This is your character's new house. You may claim a house or apartment here
How do new arrivals work?
Character will first arrive next to the Information Hub which is run by a man named Jerry. He greets them with a smile gives them their welcome packets and brochures. "Welcome to (Current Setting Here)!" He also suggests that they check their pocket.
My character shows up injured! Do they still start at the information hub?
No, they do not! They will wake up in the hospital with doctors and nurses hovering over them, taking the best care of them. And at some point when things settle, one of the hospitals candy stripers will bring you a gift bag from Jerry, containing everything you'd pick up at the information hub, a get well card and a small teddy bear.
What all is in the Welcome Packet?
Everything your character will need to start their new life in Fluxscape. Such as a map of the area, a debit card for purchases, a Fluxphone, and a Job Search Aid. For detailed information on this, click here. (Please Note that this time, this only a place holder, do not click this link.)
How does my Character get Money?
With a job, of course! Yes, adult characters are recommended to have a job and No, you don’t have to play out every day at the office or even post about it. Just post a thing on the Job Post and claim one that sounds good to your character.
How well does the job pay?
Well enough that can pay their bills and actually save money for emergencies and recreation. Rent is very, very cheap.
Can my Character Start their own business?
Of course! Starting your own business is even encouraged! You’ll need to go before the city council though and apply for a business grant. You’ll probably get an approval so long as you’re not proposing to murder clients. The Council tends to frown on that sorta thing.
Is my Character’s Business Static?
Yes. They worked hard for it and we’re not gonna take that away from your characters or their employees.
How do NPCs work?
They’re just around. You can handwave interactions with them, feature them in a post or log-they’re just people that happen to live in sentient pocket dimension and don’t tend to notice when the setting changes. If you ask them about it they’ll tell you ‘they have no idea what you mean-we’ve always been on a weird spaceship that’s theoretically too big to even work.’
What can the Fluxphones do?
Your Fluxphone has many fascinating capabilities. On top of being able to call anyone on the network for a private conversation (your directory is updated with each arrival and departure), you'll also be able to connect with groups of people and the network at large. With features such as video chat, voice chat, photos and texting, it's easy to stay in contact with everyone in town.
Your smartphone comes with a music player, too! You'll be able to enjoy music from your universe with the touch of a button and be able to send and share playlists to your friends! Enjoy!
Not only that, but just the touch of a button alerts local emergency services and can be programmed to ping specific people in case of an emergency.

Throwing in some new FAQ
can this include pets or Droid type characters that are only companions and not appable?
Can I app nonhumans like dragons, androids, and the like?
How do the natives feel about our characters?
in a character's first month in the game do they have to make full AC?
For crau characters, is there a limit of how many previous games / universe has you wish them to have experienced?
for Canon characters that are just mentioned or have limited Canon what is your policy as far as them being apped?
for Canon characters that have multiple sources that are similar or share the same qualities but have different stories what is your policy on mixing and matching?
is it okay to app characters that have no history revealed of before their story's canon but have fully formed personalities?
Re: Throwing in some new FAQ
We will be going through them one at a time so this might take a bit.
Re: Throwing in some new FAQ
Your character arrives with the clothes on their back! Whatever outfit they were wearing when they disappeared from their dimension and found themselves in Fluxscape. If, per chance, they were....indecent, we'll say...at that time. They'll find they're in a very basic pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Or really ridiculous pajamas. We'll leave that up to you.
Can this include pets or Droid type characters that are only companions and not appable?
If the character has formed a really strong emotional bond and would be in considerable emotional distress should they realize their trusty companion isn't with them then the companion (droid/pet/sentient blanket/whatev) will appear with them at the Info hub. Otherwise, they will be waiting in your new home! (See Cal Kestis and BD-1, Geralt and Roach, Ash and Pikachu and Hiccup and Toothless)
Can I app nonhumans like dragons, androids, and the like?
Always. Somehow, there is room for transformers and Dragons. They might find some difficulty entering some buildings, but for the most part they'll find they fit the town just fine.
How do the natives feel about our characters?
The Natives are just normal people, bro. They just out here tryna live they best life. That said, they don't yet have an feelings towards the Player Characters YET. They're used to visitors because every setting has a tourist-based economy. They're mostly interested in their own lives and selling you stuff-Oh, and try these new essential oils! Guaranteed to give you the best sleep of your life! (Note: Essential Oils may or may not actually give you the best sleep of your life)
Please bear in mind that treating the natives with respect will in turn have them respecting you. Act like a fool and...well, you might find yourself starting to be shunned in places and ignored entirely in others.
In a character's first month in the game do they have to make full AC?
No, after some discussion we decided that for the first month we just want to see an attempt to interact with the setting as the Mods are aware and understand it can take at least a month to get acclimated to a new game.
However, if you do meet AC your first month then you will be awarded 2pts (per new character) as opposed to the usual 1pt.
For crau characters, is there a limit of how many previous games / universe has you wish them to have experienced?
No, we think for CRAU that should be left up to the players discretion. If they want to include all games they've been in for their CRAU, go for it. If they just want to do a couple, that's cool too.
For Canon characters that are just mentioned or have limited Canon what is your policy as far as them being apped? Is it okay to app characters that have no history revealed of before their story's canon but have fully formed personalities?
We would prefer some kind of history, so we understand what motivates a character. Fully formed personalities are great, but we like to see what makes a character tick. That being said, however, you can app them and we'll take them on a case by case basis.
For Canon characters that have multiple sources that are similar or share the same qualities but have different stories what is your policy on mixing and matching?
We don't mind this at all!
However we do hope people don't mix and match so much that it makes it impossibe for someone to app that character from another canon source.

1. Are CRAUs from AU games acceptable?
2. Is there a language barrier?
no subject
The short answer is yes, but if another version of your character is in game, ask them first.
2. Is there a Language Barrier
There is something about the place that makes understanding other people easy. Which, unfortunately, means that there'd be no speaking in another language around people. Now, in cases of using sign language, or braille to speak, that's different. People will feel as though they have a vague idea of what's being said.
Now, it might come up in plot that a language has appeared that no one can understand just yet, but don't worry. Ways to understand that language will be provided during plots a bit at a time.

Also re: items from home/pets, if I were to app someone who has a rather... um... large feline companion who is sentient and his own character, but isn't really appable because making AC with him without making him OOC would be next to impossible (he mostly stays invisible when he can and uses magic to keep people from hearing him, and only talks to the few humans who have earned his trust....) would be be able to come along?
Please note for full disclosure, I am talking about what amounts to a one ton sentient tiger with magic and the temperament to kill, though if he stays with Jaenelle, she will generally forbid it. And I will take IC consequences should he slip the leash.
This pretty kitty.
Though in fairness I might just app one of the unicorns >.>
no subject
Short answer; no. Your character will show up with the clothes on their back. Our application will consist of a section where your character can choose six small items from home/previous games. Or alternately two small items and one large (Think small vehicle sized) item to be found later that will appear in a chest in their residence, but the only things they'll arrive with is what they're wearing at the time.
As for companion characters:
While we do allow companion characters, our stipulations there are characters who exist in canon but wouldn't be considered their own fully formed character. Think Krypto for Superboy.
Companion characters with their own sentience and fully formed personalities (Olaf from Frozen, for example) are not permitted.

More questions, Sorry!
Okay so I have someone who is a bit odd and was wondering how to handle her (Actually, I have two characters like this, lol.)
Agatha here was in two different games, the second of which did not allow CRAU. Is there some way to bring her as CRAU from both? So she'd have both sets of memories? And if so (Or just for CRAU in general) is canon updating any different for them since they got pulled from a world not their own before arriving...?
Re: More questions, Sorry!
As for canon updates:
For canon updates, it's emphasis on canon. They fall asleep, dream they're back in their own universe living through whatever they have to in order to get to their new canon point, and they wake up outside the Information Booth a little older, a little wiser. Maybe with a few new scars or two.

My question is, would he be allowed this power, or am I limited to how I wrote it in his app?

If Arthur would like his trident in game, can he do the two small items and one large as opposed to six items?
no subject
That's perfectly fine! We are okay with this. We'd hate to separate Arthur from something so important, anyway.
